This trip starts in the mother city ofCape Townwith its impressiveTableMountainand theCape of Good Hope. We will then observe the Southern Right Whales, visit the southern most point ofAfricaand drive through fields of flowers to reach the wilderness area of the Cederberg. See one of the highest waterfalls at Augrabies falls National Park and visit the Kgalagadi National Park where we will try and spot several different species of antelopes, brown hyenas, cheetahs, leopards and the black maned lions.

Itinerary*

Day 1:Cape Town

After the pick up from the airport we show youCape Town, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, on a city tour. Spend the rest of the day at leisure You can visit Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, the Waterfront or relax on one of the beautiful beaches (entrances own cost).

Day 2: Visit Cape Point Nature Reserve

Today we take a leisurely drive to the Cape of Good Hope, the southwestern most point of Africa and show you the endangered African Penguins atBouldersBeach. Enjoy scenic views while we are driving alongFalse Bayand Chapman’s Peak. B

Day 3: Hermanus and De Hoop Nature Reserve

We follow a beautiful stretch of the coastal road to Hermanus, where you will have the opportunity to go whale watching on a boat cruise. We observe Southern Right Whales and with a bit of luck even Great White Sharks. We then follow the scenic route along the Atlantic Ocean to reach the southern most point of Africa,Cape Agulhas. Here the Indian andAtlanticOceansmeet and we take some time exploring the area. In the evening we reach De Hoop Nature Reserve where we overnight in bungalows. BL

Day 4: De Hoop Nature Reserve

De Hoop Nature Reserve is the biggest reserve in theCaperegion. On game drives we will almost definitely see some Ostrich, Bontebok, Mountain Zebra and Eland, the largest antelope inAfrica. One of the highlights here is whale watching. From May to November this is the main breeding and calving spot for Southern Right Whales, which can be observed from one of the high sand dunes along the beach. BL

Day 5: West Coast National Park

In the morning we drive through theBreedeRiverValleyto a wine farm. The afternoon will be spent bird watching at the Langebaan lagoon. Large colonies of endemic birds such as the Cape Gannet and Cape Cormorants live on islands close to them mainland and can be observed from numerous hides. BL

Day 6: Postberg Nature Reserve

In the Postberg Section of theWest CoastNational Park(only open August and September) we might see Blue Wildebeest, Springbok, Mountain Zebras, Eland and Oryx antelopes. We will have a picknick in a spring flower field. BL

Day 7: Cederberg Mountains

In the morning we visit aCapeGannetcolony inLambertsBay. We then explore the Cederberg, one of the most beautiful wilderness mountain areas inSouth Africa. The landscape here is eroded by wind, rain and frost. On several stops we have the opportunity to hike to natural rock sculptures, look at ancient bushman paintings and photograph several Protea species. In the evening we reach Niewoudtville or Vanrynsdorp, where we overnight in a guest house for 2 nights. BLD

Day 8: Namaqualand

Excursion to the Bokkeveld where we usually see an abundance of flowers and several colourful fields of daisies. We visit a Quiver tree forest. This is an interesting aloe species which the bushman used to make quivers for their arrows. BLD

 

Day 9: Augrabies Falls National Park

After a long drive we reach the rocky desert landscape at theAugrabiesFallsNational Park. Here theOrange Riverplunges almost 200m from its granite platform into the canyon. We do an evening game drive to observe animals like Giraffe, Springbok, Oryx, Eland and Klipspringer. BL

Day 10: Kgalagadi National Park

A short drive will bring us to theKgalagadiNational Park. This park is a cooperative project betweenBotswanaandSouth Africaand we have time to explore the unique Kalahari landscape of both countries. BLD

 

Day 11 – 14: Kgalagadi National Park

We do several game drives in theKgalagadiNational Park. The roads follow the dry river beds of the Auob and the Nossob. The animals have adopted to the arid conditions in this area and we will see Oryx, Springbok, Blue Wildebeest, Ostriches and numerous interesting bird species. This is one of the best areas inAfricato see Cheetahs and the Kalahari Lion hunt and we might be lucky enough to spot these rare predators. BLD

 

Day 15: Drive to Upington, end of the tour at about lunchtime. B
