This is truly one of the purest adventure trails in SouthernAfrica. We experience the Orange River in the unique Richtersveld. The Gariep River or “Great River” as it is called by the local Nama people offers a unique outdoor experience to those who seek tranquility and adventure. The days are spent rafting down this quiet river with few dangerous rapids. We overnight next to the river under the African stars.

Day 1: Orange River

The Gariep River or “Great River” as it is called by the local Nama people offers a unique outdoor experience to those who seek tranquility and adventure.

The river is surrounded by semi precious stone and rock formations, and an abundance of small animals, primates and extraordinary bird life.

After our individual drive we meet our group members at around 5 pm at the base camp for a briefing and first dinner together. D

Day 2 – 4: Rafting – Tour through Richtersveld

Three magic days are spent going down the Orange River in either canoes or rafts. This is not a technically difficult river and everyone can just sit back and enjoy one of the last wilderness areas in Southern Africa.

Our aim is to explore and discover the Richtersveld mountain desert with all its hidden treasures and trails. The days are spent with paddling, swimming, floating, bird watching and negotiating some rapids and fast flowing water.

Our guides will take you through rapids, hike with you and discover the lunar landscape and eco system of the desert. We do need to cover some distance on a daily basis to reach our destination. The trails vary from 20 km – 40 km depending on the water levels. BLD

After another morning on the river we drive back to our base camp on the Orange River. BLD

FURTHER INFORMATION 

Meals:All meals are prepared on an open fire and will consist of quality and healthy food. We do cater for all special diets, i.e. vegetarians, vegans etc. Our delicious bush cooking on an open fire creates a campfire ambiance on the banks of the Orange River.

Dinners: We offer 3 course meals for dinner, consisting of a salad, main course and desert.

Lunch: Normally consists of salads, health bread, pasta and fruit.

Breakfasts: fried breakfast or/ and continental breakfast with cereal and fruit

Participants: 6-25 people

Visa: please check with your embassy

Entrance: Passport (at least valid for another 6 months after departure), it is necessary to stamp passports before the tour

Vaccinations: not mandatory
